MTAP2000 Software

The following utilities are included in MTAP2000:

Diagnostic Maintenance Unit (DMU)
Line Monitoring Unit (LMU)
Flash Memory Utility (FMU)
Database Configuration Utility (DCU)
RTU Ladder-logic Editor (RLE)

MTap2000 supports the following operational modules:

(i)   Diagnostic Maintenance Utility (DMU)– This mode of the MTAP2000 maintenance package is used to view and control the real-time operation of the Micrapac RTU. Configuration and parameter data can be reviewed and also edited including communication speed, debounce times, output pulse duration, analog deadband, etc. PTS also supports downloading of RTU database parameter tables. Communication statistics between the Micrapac RTU and SCADA master station is also provided.

  • setting RTU address (temporary overwrite of DIP switches settings)
  • setting master comms baud rate, time outs, delay
  • checking board status on the internal LAN comms
  • uploading the RTU database configuration
  • monitoring all status input conditions of each type
  • selecting and executing control outputs of each type
  • editing of point types from momentary to latch
  • editing of debounce times
  • editing of output control times
  • downloading a time update to the RTU
  • in RTUs with such features implemented, the MTap2000 also supports analogs, analog deadbands, analog scaling, analog reference values, accumulators, SOE logs, IRIG-B time synchronization, analog output parameters, calculated data measurements etc.

(ii)  Line Monitoring Unit (LMU) - is used to monitor and capture view the detailed communication byte stream between the Micrapac RTU and SCADA master station or IEDs or other RTUs and also between the ComCon4 and I/O modules (in Micrapac 9200 RTUs).

(iii) Flash Memory Utility (FMU) - is used to upload and download RTU operation firmware and/or  database information into the Flash RAM of the ComCom4 module.

(iv) RTU Ladder-logic Editor (RLE) – provides engineering staff a means to develop control strings (i.e. Ladder Logic) and download them into the RTU. RLE Ladder Logic is ideal for engineering and field staff who develop process control applications.  It is a convenient means of programming the MICRAPAC RTUs to specifically to meet the needs of an application.  If the application requirements change, the RTU can be reprogrammed to fit the new specifications. The power of RLE Ladder Logic lies in the way it integrates the classical Ladder Logic with Functional Blocks, and therefore the schematics support a high degree of versatility and complexity. The RLE Ladder Logic conforms to the IEC 1131 standard requirements.

(v) Database Configuration Utility (DCU) - an optional utility that provides the user the ability to map any physical database point into any structure and/or order. This feature allows the user to reorganize the database in order to match existing RTU database maps or to present the data to the SCADA host in a familiar format.

The FMU and LMU utilities are normally only used during the initial commissioning or when very major changes are made to the RTU. These functions are included in the MTap2000 package.
